The metabolism is a mechanism through which our body uses food to provide energy to the human organism.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Most of the foods we eat are broken down into glucose &#8211; among other components. <strong>Glucose<\/strong> consists the main fuel source for our body. The cells of our body use the glucose, converting it to energy. However, glucose cannot penetrate into the cells without the presence of a particular substance, insulin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Insulin<\/strong> is a hormone that is produced in the pancreas. More particularly, after the intake of food, the pancreas liberates a -significant- quantity of insulin, that pushes glucose towards the cells. This movement corresponds to the decrease of sugar (glucose) levels in blood. Diabetes occurs when the human body cannot use food as energy and, therefore, sugar is increased in the blood.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row \"><div class=\"wpv-grid grid-1-1  wpv-first-level first unextended animation-from-left animated-active\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px\" id=\"wpv-column-a25915d617b9de86a60fdfb3f4595dc8\" >\t\t<h3 class=\"text-divider-double\">\t\t\tThere are three types of Diabetes:\t\t<\/h3>\t\t<div class=\"sep\"><\/div>\t<div class=\"wpv-tabs horizontal\" id=\"tabs-1\"><ul class=\"ui-tabs-nav\"><li><a href=\"#tab-1-0-type-1-diabetes\"> <span class=\"title-text\">Type 1 Diabetes<\/span><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#tab-1-1-type-2-diabetes\"> <span class=\"title-text\">Type 2 Diabetes <\/span><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#tab-1-2-gestational-diabetes\"> <span class=\"title-text\">Gestational Diabetes <\/span><\/a><\/li><\/ul><div class=\"pane\" id=\"tab-1-0-type-1-diabetes\"><div class=\"push\" style='height:60px'><\/div>\n<div class=\"row \"><div class=\"wpv-grid grid-1-2  first unextended\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px\" id=\"wpv-column-54b7995294bf47640c6136d37d87d1e2\" ><p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Type 1 Diabetes<\/strong> is an autoimmune disease. The human body itself is actually destroying the cells that produce insulin. Thus, the insulin that is required by our body is not produced. Type 1 Diabetes may occur to patients at a young age (juvenile Diabetes). Unfortunately, type 1 Diabetes cannot be prevented. Until its manifestation, there is no symptom at all. Patients with type 1 Diabetes must be very careful of what they eat. On terms of age, it occurs much later in life than Type 1 Diabetes. In the case of Type 2 Diabetes, the body produces insulin, but its action is reduced. This has the result that valuable time is wasted, before its effective treatment begins.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">More particularly, Type 2 Diabetes may occur to anyone.<\/p>\n<div class=\"row \"><div class=\"wpv-grid grid-2-5  wpv-first-level first unextended\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px\" id=\"wpv-column-db14dc6d90f4c0e8889edf5329570184\" ><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, there is an increased risk of Type 2 Diabetes in the following categories:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"styled-list  icon-accent2\">\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Obese people (Abdominal obesity and deposition of fat in the liver)<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Women who have developed gestational diabetes<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">People with a family history of Type 2 Diabetes<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Women with a history of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">People with a history of cardiovascular disease<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">People with low good cholesterol<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"push\" style='height:20px'><\/div><\/div>\n<div class=\"wpv-grid grid-3-5  wpv-first-level unextended\" style=\"padding-top:0px;padding-bottom:0px\" id=\"wpv-column-577172e8c69d3f1a1b54462dba4293f2\" ><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Although, as it has been mentioned, Diabetes Mellitus does not usually present any symptoms until it is diagnosed, there are some signs\/symptoms that are related with its occurrence:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"styled-list  icon-accent2\">\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Feeling of thirst &amp; xerostomia (dry mouth)<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Feeling of fatigue or even exhaustion<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Numbness in arms\/ legs<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Increase of appetite<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Nausea or even vomiting<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Polyuria<\/li>\n<li class=\" icon-b theme\" data-icon=\"&#57351;\">Vision disorders<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Diabetes Mellitus can be diagnosed with a simple urine analysis, where a high quantity of glucose can be found.
